Happy Birthday

Winfield recieved a birthday present in the mail today. He spent over an hour inspecting it this afternoon. He isn't exactly sure what it is though. Because he can't read he had to use the pictures as clues. He has never seen anything like it before and he can't quite understand how it would be used with all of the snow that is on the ground. He has no memory of an outside without snow so is must be an inside toy. He fell asleep with a mystery tonight. We told him that he would have to wait until his birthday party to open it.

Thanks Grandpa Goose and Grandma Jan!

Big Toys Fight Back

This afternoon Win was eagerly playing with a new big toy--an empty diaper box. I was writing a letter while listening to him happily play. I was mothering with my ears more than my eyes. Then I started to hear his frustrated whining. Trying to discourage it I don't usually pay much attention to that sound. So I let the frustration continue. It lasted longer than usual. When I looked up to check on him this is what I had found. The box had fought back and eaten Winfield.

Some serious work going on

Winfield is doing some serious work in this video. You may have to turn your sound up to get the full impact.

Visit from the Grandfolks

Today and last night WIn entertained visitors: his Grandpa Bruce and Grandma Jan. Grandma tried to help Win take his first steps (unsuccessfully) by a combination of Physical Therapy maneuvers and verbal intimidation (telling Win that his younger cousin Luke was going to walk first). We also had a nice brunch at Alpenrose, where Win happily sat in a kid chair and ate some dried cherries that the waitress brought him. Winfield especially enjoyed being repeatedly thrown into the recliner by his grandpa (see second picture).

Winfield and Friends

Ellie and Mallory spent the morning at 92 East yesterday. All three kids liked Win's wooden puzzle, but for three different reasons. Win really liked to pick up the pieces and bang them together. They make a very loud and pleasurable (for a baby) noise. Mallory thought that the puzzle was a nice challenge. With a little thought and work she could slove it. Ellie liked the puzzle becuase she could see right away how easy it was and she enjoyed showing the other two how it is done.

No More Toys

Win has got a bad habit of throwing all of his toys out of his Pack & Play or out of the tub. We've been trying not to encourage this behavior.

what IS that?

I rarely use flash. I don't care for the look of images in which a flash was used, unless it was used with great skill. I don't have great flash skill and so I rarely use my flash. In an attempt to remedy the skill problem I spent money (that always helps, right?). I bought this thingy that make flash photos look better. So I used it. This is my second picture using my new tool. Can you tell that Win isn't used to the camera blinding him?
