Whenever anyone holds him he insists on hanging his head over your arm. If I tuck his head in he fusses. Whenever we hold him at church we get scolded for not knowing how to hold a newborn. Here is Denise (our friend and housemate) holding him. Notice how he arches his back as to hang his head over her arm. He can't be stopped.

Who said birthday?
Win is one month old today. Time flies! It is amazing how he changes and grows in just one month. He can do so little at this age but he learns so quick. He has come to terms with things that he used to hate, like diaper changes. He nurses better. He takes a bottle without hesitation. He is just one month older and more mature. Happy Birthday Win!

It took fifteen minutes...
...of videotaping him, hoping to catch him in the act, but it paid off! Here is some footage of Win's famous Sneeze/Coo move for your viewing enjoyment. Click on the little "play" triangle on the lower left to watch.

A Bad Habit
Here's Win after his bath this morning. He has definitely decided he likes baths, but has developed the bad habit of peeing almost without fail as soon as we put him in a towel to dry him off. Other than that we can't really complain. He's still sleeping pretty great and cooing when he sneezes, and doing other baby-like things. Grandma Jan and two friends stopped by on Thursday for a few minutes to cuddle with the chump, and we think Win made a pretty good impression on all.

Grandma Dean
Grandma Dean spent the week in Holland cooking, cleaning and calming a fussy baby. She and Win had a great time together. He loved rocking in the rocking chair with Grandma, as shown here. This last week he developed a special method of melting peoples hearts when he sneezes. He perfected his technique on Grandma. After a good sneeze, he takes a deep breath as if he is going to wind up for another. Instead of sneezing he lets out a heart melting coo. It gets us every time.

Win's First Stroll
Today Win took his first stroll in his running stroller, which we call his car. Last Saturday Jared installed the infant hammock with the intention of taking him for a short run but he was having a fussy afternoon and had to stay home. Today was sunny and warm (in that March "warm" way) so we took him to two parks near our home. He fell asleep as soon as we started walking. We think that walking and running are going to be one of his favorite activities.

Pretty Nice Feet
Championship feet here. Remember, Win won the Chicago Marathon for his age division (under 0) this fall. In other news, Win decided he wanted to stay up pretty much all day yesterday and rebut all of our attempts to have him nap. The upside of that is he had another great night of sleeping, which is becoming pretty standard. Oh, and someone in our household peed on the wall last night. I won't tell you who, he's kind of embarrassed.

Let's call him Win
I think Rachel and I have settled on spelling it just plain "Win." Thanks for all your comments and suggestions, they were very useful for us in sorting out our thoughts. I think what it came down to for me is that I didn't want to minimize the fact that, although we're gonna call him Win, his name is Winfield. I feel a little like writing it Wynn would be like giving him another name. When he's old enough to care, if he wants to spell it differently, that's fine with us. Benjamin's quasi-vietnamese spelling suggestions were definitely considered at length during the process, but in the end we thought he might have a hard time spelling "Nguyen," so we'll stick with the simpler version. Oh, and here's a picture of Win lounging in bed with mom and dad - a little "SB" for the chump.

Hello to my internet fans
Another day, another cute picture. Rachel thinks Win looks like a doctor in these oversized white shirts - sort of like a baby lab coat. Win turned one week old last night and is still doing super, getting cuter by the day if that's possible. Tonight Grandma Bonnie is coming for a week of hanging out and helping.

In My Crib
Here's a cute pose of Win in his crib. Thanks to Uncle Doug and Aunt Barb for the beautiful crib, by the way - he seems to like it pretty well. Yesterday the little chump had two doctor's appointments and managed to pee on a nurse during the first one. We were proud of him. Serious Thoughts
Winfield has had a few big days recently. We brought him home from the hospital Friday morning and he promptly slept through the grand tour of his new house. It was a pretty snoozy day until Grandpa Goose and Grandma Jan arrived at around 6:30. Later, the General made his first public appearance, showing up fashionably late for our monthly Friday night worship service at church. Today Win/Wynn spent some time discussing serious issues with Grandpa Goose (see above pic) and nearly took a test drive in his running stroller. Right now both Winfield and Rachel are taking well-deserved naps.

How should I spell my nickname?
Hey friends and fam. Welcome to Winfield's new blog! Right now the content is mostly repeats of stuff posted elsewhere, but soon enough this will be THE place to come for recent Winfield happenings and photos. To start things out with a bang we'll use this venue to solicit feedback on the following question: how should we spell Winfield's shortened nickname - Win or Wynn? Please tell us your honest opinion and also comment on whether it is permissable to have a nickname that differs in spelling from the original name. Winfield's pretty concerned about this issue, and he would appreciate some counsel.
